Dr. Edward Marien

President

He is professor emeritus and director of transportation management programs for the Executive Education department within the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). His present instructional activities at the UW include a wide offering of non-credit, continuing educational programs for industry practitioners from manufacturers, distributors, retailers, carriers and third-party services providers in consumer and industrial market segments.

Dr. Marien has been employed directly in industry and consults extensively with industry professionals. He has consulted with organizations on supply chain/logistics/transportation, economics and business planning.

He has assisted information technology firms in strategic planning and concept implementation. Dr. Marien also assisted suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and carriers in negotiations, in operations improvement tactics, and in implementing supply chain management initiatives. He emphasizes the use of process improvement models along with practical tips and techniques
for clients to build trading partner relationships.

Dr. Marien is very active with professional and trade associations, having held many national and chapter positions, including Equipment Manufacturers' Institute, NAWGA/FSDA warehousing benchmarking study, National Industrial Transportation League, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Association of Transportation & Logistics, Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, Warehousing Education & Research Council and numerous Motor carrier and Railroad Carrier Associations.

He has authored many practitioner journal and trade magazine articles, co-authored 101+ Actions to Improve Transportation and Logistics Performance and is often quoted on issues of national interest. He holds degrees from Indiana University (MBA) and Michigan State University (Ph.D., Marketing and Logistics).
